Membership is open to any person whose primary work-related responsibilities or interest are in the area of mental health counseling or consultation, who holds licensure or is eligible for licensure, as a mental health counselor


Discount membership for full-time students.


Open to any IMHCA member who has been a member at least ten years and reaches the age of 62. This membership shall include all association privileges.


Open to any person who is interested in and wishes to support the goals and objectives of the Association. May attend meetings of the Association, but shall not be entitled to vote and/or hold office.

AMHCA Unified

The American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) is our parent organization, and you receive a discount if you sign up for a combined AMHCA and IMHCA membership. This is only available for the Regular membership (not student or retired). You sign up for a unified membership through the AMHCA website. Choose  “Member-Clinical-Unified Dues,” or “Member-Regular-Unified Dues” on the AMHCA membership page.

Paying for your new or renewed membership

You have two options to pay for  your membership:
1. You can mail a check to our treasurer (with a brief note of what the payment is for); made out to IMHCA, to this address:

2. Use Paypal to pay online.
When the online registration process takes you to Paypal, if you do not have a Paypal account, you can sign up for a free Paypal account. Unfortunately, we cannot accept online payments for a membership without a Paypal account. This is a more secure way of paying than if we accepted your credit card information directly on our site. Paypal will set up automatic annual renewal payments for your membership. If you want to cancel the automatic renewal, you can do that from your settings in Paypal, or email that request to
