The Iowa Mental Health Counselors Association (IMHCA) is dedicated to meeting the professional needs of mental health counselors in Iowa in an intentionally inclusive manner.
With this mission at heart, IMHCA is monitoring action at the state and federal level that will negatively impact the LGBTQ+ community, as well as other marginalized groups. IMHCA is deeply disturbed by recent executive orders and proposed State bills that impact LGBTQ+ Iowans, including members of the counseling profession and the clients we serve.
IMHCA believes that much of the chaos and uncertainty right now is intentional, and designed to fuel fear, panic, and uncertainty. As such, we may not be issuing a statement regarding every federal or state action. But please know that we are monitoring, we are lobbying, and we are working with our national partners to protect and advance human rights and dignity.
Our weekly Legislative Updates will be published for state level bills that we are following, and our lobbyist is at the Statehouse every day working for the advancement of the counseling profession and the clients we serve. We urge you to find additional trusted resources through this time of uncertainty to stay informed but resilient. If additional information is of interest to you, please join our Legislative Committee on the 4th Thursday of the month. Contact [email protected] for the login information.
We stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ counselors, clients, and community and will continue to advocate for your rights and show up for one another with strength and resilience.
