Submit a Board Nomination

We are so excited you are here! There are so many great benefits to serving on the Association Board of your professional organization. These include continuing education credits for serving, opportunities to attend our state and national conferences, networking with other providers, and the opportunity to advocate for mental health at the state level. Our volunteer board members work hard to support mental health counseling through networking, advocacy, continuing education and public relations.

General expectations of all Association Board members are that they maintain active IMHCA/AMHCA Unified membership in good standing, attend quarterly board meetings, participate in an annual board retreat, help plan the programming of IMHCA, participate in committee meetings (based on their chair or interest), and collaborate with other Association Board members to accomplish tasks that meet the mission of IMHCA. Most meetings are held virtually or with a virtual option. We love having representation from across the state, so don’t let distance stop you from applying!

This application form is open for nominations year-round to cultivate interest and keep a list of those interested in leadership positions. If you are interested in a specific position that is not open, feel free to join the relevant committee associated with the position and we will keep your application on file. We will reach out periodically to those who are expressing interest. Terms are two years with the exception of the President role.

Pursuant to the Association Bylaws, candidates for Association Board service must be a member in good standing as defined by the Association Bylaws:

  • Be current on Membership dues
  • Have no open disciplinary actions with the Iowa DIAL Board of Behavioral Science, or any other state’s governing board
  • Maintain an active license to practice in Iowa as a Mental Health Counselor (provisional or independent)
    • This requirement does not apply to Student Representative or Advocate Member Chair positions

Applicants must also demonstrate that they meet the specific requirements of the position they are applying for.

Nominations for regular elections must be submitted by February 15th of each year. No late nominations will be considered.

Complete nominations include:

  • Completed Board Nomination form
  • Current resume or CV

The Nominations and Elections Committee will review each nominee to verify eligibility. All eligible nominees will be provided to the Association Board by March 1st. For elected positions, a simple majority vote of the Association Board is required for approval and inclusion of candidates on the final ballot that will be presented to members. For appointed positions, the President will complete appointments following the two-thirds majority approval of the Association Board.

Elections will take place from approximately March 15th – April 15th. Election results are expected by mid-April. All nominees will be duly informed of their nomination status by the Chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee. Newly elected and appointed Association Board members will be announced at the Annual meeting, to coincide with the Annual Conference.

Unsuccessful nominees are able to run again in future elections, as long as they meet eligibility criteria as outlined above.
